It's amazing how everyone came up with such vastly different projects from the same prompt and yet everyone was able to fulfill the requirements of it. It makes me sad when I walk into a classroom and find everyone working on the same project with only slight variation. It makes me wonder if the kids are actually learning and being engaged. In my most recent observations the kids were all making storyteller dolls. There was so sense of personal significance or wonder in the work. They weren't investigating anything besides technique and students are limited to what the teacher tells them. There is no opportunity for mutual learning between students or between students and teachers.
