(11.1) Magic Rock Game
For some reason it wasn't letting me upload my own images and sprites, but my goal was to get a better understanding of if_then statements because when I tried them when I was younger it was really difficult for me to grasp. I think this program does a good job of helping you understand diffract coding in simple ways. There's not enough direction, however, so its definitely something kids might want teachers to really discount for them before starting. Not everyone will be able to just explore without getting frustrated. It was also hard because I had a little bit of knowledge of this language and was struggling to translate what I already knew to this program. It was easier when Just forgot everything and played around.
I love this concept! Although it took me forever to finally get a "probably" or "yes" response, so I was starting to think the rock just hated me. I love how you gave this little rock so much personality, especially when it says "bye loser" and "walks" away. I agree with you that it's much easier to just play around with scratch when you don't have something in mind that you want it to do, but I think you did a great job with it being your first time! I think it just shows us that if we do introduce scratch into a classroom, it's beneficial to give students plenty of time to experiment on their own before giving them a specific prompt.
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious! I agree with Becca. I was at first, when playing around with your game, worried that I did something wrong. Once I realized that the rock just had an attitude, I found it commercial. This is a great first start. The use of movement and words really makes it interesting. I understand the whole learning curve that it takes to create on scratch. I was unable to upload my own images also. This project really needs time to figure things out. There needs to be efficient amount of time for students to understand how this program works. Great job!
